The Diva was one of about 30 participants in an invitational workshop last week, in Chapel Hill, NC, organized to develop a body of theory to guide long-term recovery from disasters in the U.S. For too many decades, we have proceeded without such knowledge and guidance. The participants came up with several excellent background papers and began the process of setting an agenda for future research projects. See the project website for preliminary details about the Recovery Theory Workshop.
Several “white papers” have been prepared as the basis for discussion at the workshop. As soon as they are completed, they will be available from the Public Entity Risk Institute’s bookstore. PERI is the sponsor of the workshop, which was funded by the National Science Foundation.
