Appreciate the article on the ongoing insurance crisis but wow, for anyone out there who doesn’t think disaster declarations are political, see this one for CA. Just saw where POTUS approved in less than 48 hours, major disaster declaration for CA fires, @ 100% Federal for 180 days. Can someone please provide a recent example of this occurring in a ‘red’ state. Guess POTUS was looking for a way to exhaust all recently approved DERF funding through Congress. Hmm.
Not saying that a major disaster declaration would not have eventually been approved but the swiftness of declaration, coupled with the length of 100% Federal funding is pretty extraordinary. Comparing this action to the recent declarations in FL, GA, SC, NC, and TN.
This will certainly skew future analysis of where Federal disaster dollars are allocated and spent (red vs blue), but I certainly look forward to comments. The article posited that the solution was going to cost the CA homeowners a ton, guess it might just now be a half a ton. And, let’s get ready for the debris cleanup of all the residential properties…that effort alone will costs billions.
