This book has been the best introduction to emergency management I could offer my students, no matter the level, undergrad or graduate. I required graduate students to read it before the first day of class, and come prepared to report on one of the chapters. What a great way to start the semester! The history of disasters and the federal response to them is an eye-opener for EM students. The book is very well written by a cadre of experts, and it is very well edited. It’s a must read for all of my students.
