Given that the Sahara is actually shrinking and becoming agriculturally productive, one wonders where the millions of refugees will come from. People flee from the acute not the gradual – New Orleans had been in a slow decline for decades before Katrina, but it was her extremity that led so many to leave and not come back. This scaremongering would be amusing if it wasn’t so pathetic.
